''The Lawrence Welk Show'' - Pilot

Published 1955

This is the pilot that was made to get "local" televsion personality Lawrence Welk picked up as a network series. One of the most "square" things you'll ever see, but that's part of the charm....

Run time 28 minutes 33 seconds
Audio/Visual sound, black and white

Nobody said that THIS episode aired locally. In fact this episode never aired at all. Lawrence Welk was a "local" personality at the time, and this pilot was produced to pitch the show to the national networks (the Dodge commercials date from different years, they could not have AIRED in the same program together. Note that one of them is for the 1954 model year while another is for a 1956 model year. They were added presumably because Dodge already wanted to be the sponsor prior to it being picked up as a network series, and were used to show how the show would look with commercials). Note that the actual show was aired LIVE, while this unaired pilot was shot on film.

Producer Don Fedderson did not produce local TV. This also has a national sponcer. This was not a local show sorry to say.

I thoroughly enjoyed this.Welk was virtually unknown in England so I am not overly familiar with him.He had a good band and the show is good entertainment. It would be nice to see more. Thanks to the uploader.

I sheepishly admit I still watch old Welk shows on my local PBS station!
